Let the Women Speak for Themselves
In 2023 HWO created a platform called 'Let the Women Speak for Themselves', with a focus of giving survivors of SGBV a platform to come together to share their stories and recive support. So far HWO held sessions in Jigjiga and Degahbur with 85 survivors. Key messages included listening to the women, encouraging them to speak up, explaining the curret transitional justice process at the regional and national level, and exploring ways to support their needs including access to justice. One survivors shared,

" I was arrested, torture, beaten, and became unconscious. When I woke up I was in a pool of my own blood and realized I had been raped. I became pregnant and had a daughter. i have never received any support and still live with the trauma till this day"

HWO has created an Emergency Fund to help women survivors and women ex-combatants with the most dire needs including but not limited to rent support, food, insecurity, medical needs, and job development.
